Sunday, September 30th, Smoky Mountain Medical Society’s Family Picnic at Cataloochee Ranch was full of good fellowship, food and fun! Attendees enjoyed a wonderful meal followed by a table full of homemade dessert choices! We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, a wonderful area to play, the pond, and a wagon ride. Music provided by Jeanne Nabors, click on her name to listen.

About Us

Our History

The Haywood County Medical Society, a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization, was originally organized in 1959 for the association and mutual benefit of the physicians of Haywood County, North Carolina.  The purpose of the society is to serve as a forum for continuing medical education, promote collegiality among providers and to improve the standards of medical care for our community. 

New Name

In 2017, the members voted to open membership to the surrounding far Western North Carolina counties and to include Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. The new name of Smoky Mountain Medical Society (SMMS) was chosen to reflect the expanded area where members work and live.

Membership Requirements

Open to physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who live and/or work in the far Western North Carolina counties of Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain. 

Membership Inquiries

Annual Dues

The annual membership dues are $75 for all members. We accept checks and credit/debit payments. The North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) will accept credit card payments for the Smoky Mountain Medical Society.  We also accept checks and credit/debit payments at meetings (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express).
